The Traveling Must Continue!

Today I am embarking on what might be one of the most exotic trips I've ever been on. I will be flying to Johannesburg, South Africa to join a dear friend and two new friends for a road trip adventure through the Limpopo province of South Africa. We will be traveling by car to about 5 different locations, staying a few days in each place. In each location we will do several safari drives.

The Limpopo Province sits in the far north of South Africa, where the country meets Botswana, Zimbabwe, and Mozambique. It’s a region defined by wide-open landscapes, baobab-dotted horizons, and a strong connection to both nature and tradition.

Limpopo is best known for its proximity to the Kruger National Park, one of Africa’s premier wildlife destinations, where visitors can experience iconic safaris and see the “Big Five.” Beyond the parks, the province offers dramatic scenery—from the lush mountains and forests of the Magoebaskloof area to the ancient cultural sites of the Mapungubwe region, a former kingdom and now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Culturally, Limpopo is rich and diverse, home to communities such as the Venda, Tsonga, and Northern Sotho, each with distinct languages, traditions, and art. The pace of life is generally slower and more grounded, making it an ideal place to experience both the natural beauty and cultural depth of northern South Africa.

After the road trip portion, I will be traveling alone to Zimbabwe for a visit to Victoria Falls for a few days before coming home.

This is going to be a photo-rich trip. I will prob only include one photo in each blog and post a group of photos directly to FB and IG. It’s just easier that way.

And, while I’m happy about this adventure, I can’t pretend I’m not feeling somewhat sad. All the while I was packing I couldn’t help but think of Kristi — I could hear her reminding me to check it my passport among other things. I know she’ll be with me but it’s not the same.

  2. Our South African daughter just made it home yesterday after her year exchange. We plan to see her in two years (going to Kosovo this fall for son there). Our hope is to go to Zanzibar to visit our son from last year and then down to her.
Taking notes from your trip. It looks just like what we want to do. Kristi is there with you in spirit!🥰
